Introduction to D2L Course for Students

Overview

Students who register for an online or hybrid course for the first time at CMU are automatically enrolled in the Introduction to D2L course. A welcome email with additional information is automatically sent to students’ CMU email accounts shortly after registering for an online or hybrid course for the first time.

Purpose

This brief, self-paced introduction course is optional and designed to help students successfully navigate D2L. Its purpose is to ensure students feel confident using the learning environment, understand where to find key course elements, and know how to get support when questions arise.

Students remain enrolled in the Introduction to D2L until they complete it or until four weeks after the start of their online or hybrid course, whichever comes first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students are strongly encouraged, but not required, to complete the Introduction to D2L. There are no punitive consequences tied to non-completion.

 No. Students will not be dropped from their online or hybrid courses for not completing the Introduction to D2L. 

Students will be automatically unenrolled from the Introduction to D2L upon completion or four weeks after their online or hybrid course begins, whichever comes first.

Faculty may choose to incorporate the Introduction to D2L into their courses if it supports student success. Students receive a certificate upon successful completion of the Introduction to D2L. 

 Students receive multiple reminders, including an email, a D2L announcement, and a MAVzone notification. The Intro is also available for optional self-enrollment in the Discover section of D2L.

Students can access support through the Introduction to D2L course, embedded resources within D2L, and the IT Service Desk.
